What is a Personal Trainer? A Personal Trainer is someone who uses their experience and knowledge of exercise and nutrition to help clients achieve their health and fitness goals. Personal Trainers provide tailored advice and programmes that specifically meet the clients fitness level. During each training session they will motivate you to work that bit harder than you would on your own, so you get the best out of your workout, and acheive your goals faster.
Do I have to be fit to have a Personal Trainer?
Quite simply - No! Although it is true that many athletes and celebrities use Personal Trainers to help them achieve better results, being fit is not a pre-cursor to having a Personal Trainer. In fact, many people who have never exercised will find they get the greatest benefits from the knowledge, support and direction that a Personal Trainer can provide.
How often do I need to see a Personal Trainer?
This really depends on what your goals are. I would recommend 1-3 times a week, however, if you can't afford a session every week, once every two weeks, or even once a month will still give you the added benefits of having a tailored programme to follow, professional advice, and motivation.
Am I too old to start exercising?
You are never too old to exercise! In fact, as we age, it becomes even more important for us to exercise, and following a regular training regime will help us fight off the negative effects that aging can have on our energy and health.
What do you do in the free consultation?
We always begin by arranging an initial consultation which is free of charge. We discuss your goals, motivations, and discuss your medical and health background. It is your opportunity to find out more about me and my opportunity to find out more about you. If at the end we are both happy, get on, and feel we can work together, then we book your 1st training sessions in our diaries, and agree a start date.
What is fitness testing?
We always start our first session with fitness testing, this helps us to identify your current level of fitness and any weaknesses in the body. Using the information collected, we design a tailored programme that will help you to achieve your goals in a safe and effective way. Key health tests include checking your blood pressure, body mass index and body fat composition. Fitness tests are also used to establish cardiovascular fitness levels as well as muscular strength and endurance. Fitness tests will be repeated at appropriate stages throughout the weeks and months of your programme in order to demonstrate the progress that you are making and to keep you motivated.
